If we require normal, healthy families and citizens to carry a gun to feel safe, we are doing something wrong. If we have armed guards looming over our most innocent, teaching them the world of fear, danger and destruction, we are doing something wrong.
If we create a society where people feel the impetus to support and love each other, and assume the best of each other, to treat each other as neighbors and friends, we are doing it correctly. If we create neighborhoods of healthy middle class families, we are doing it correctly. If people feel they have a chance to make it, that no matter their age or status, that they have a place in this world, we have done it correctly.
The way we think about this will create the world we live in. Creating a world where trust and love are the basis is the world I want to leave behind. In our daily actions, we can create that world. We can choose kindness, trust and clarity. In our assumptions about each other we can create that world. We can assume that others around us are loving, caring people. We will be wrong only rarely and we will be right almost always.
